SMTP and IMAP4 service hang "starting"
I have an Exchange 2003 SP-2 running with Windows server 2003.
I was having problems with Server ActiveSync Event ID 3029: The mailbox server [myserver.mydomain.local] has its [exchange] virtual directory set to require SSL..see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 817379.
I performed step by step resolution method 2 for article http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=817379
After the last step 7 IISRESET /NOFORCE command the SMTP and IMAP4 services are hang on starting mode.
I re-booted the server and those two services are still on starting mode.
When I click on IIS icon application wont load.
When I click the Exchange System Manager MMC it hangs
NET STOP/ NET START on any of these services wont work. the service is not responding to the control function
Please help!!
Thank you

Hello,Lets do one thing.Rename the queue directory from exchange server and set those two services to manual and reboot the box. Do you able to connect to the event log of exchange server from other machine?Like open eventviewer and right click at the root of and click connect to and see what error do you get in application log and system log?Could you able to share the application log and system log with us?Arun Kumar | MCSE - 2K3 + Messaging | ITIL-F V3

Hi,
Please try to manually stop these services and then manually start to see if it will work.
Please try to restart the server and then check the issue.
Besides, please try to use Task Manager to check if it could be a performance related issue.

Xiu
